The WA7ARC Amateur Radio Club has received approval to begin testing of a new 2m repeater frequency on Nielton Point: 146.9600 MHz. We will be using a 100.0 Hz tone (CTCSS) for that node of the network. The system is currently in simplex mode on this frequency, although the new repeater has been ordered and I've been told it will ship on 1/9/08 - we anticipate having a working system on-line around 2/1/08.
12/1/08 - We have received approval to test a new frequency - 146.9600 - on Nielton. It appears that our closest on-frequency neighbors are in Portland and Seattle, and initial tests have been positive. 11/3/2007 - Frustration with the setup on 147.2200 has gotten the better of us. Down the coast of Oregon is another system on-frequency which overlaps the Nielton Point transceiver site significantly. However, the Oregon system doesn't serve the Washington side as well as we need -- and we're penetrating into Oregon far enough that we interfere with that syste'ms primary coverage area. That being the case, there's only one alternative - a change of frequency. Currently, we're evaluating two new VHF frequencies so we can determine whether either of those will work for our purposes. Further information will follow... ---------- Such being the case, we've temporarily installed a 2m link radio which connects back to the Cosmopolis Hill site. That simplex remote receiver/transmitter is operation on 147.2200 with a CTCSS of 203.5. The system is open to all interested parties (excepting those who have been previously banned from the network for their boorish behavior).
